The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), in collaboration with the Reproduction Rights Society of Nigeria (REPRONIG), is holding a one-day Capacity Building Workshop on Copyright, Reproduction Rights and Royalty Management today, Friday, June 19, 2026, in Ibadan, Oyo State. The workshop forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen authors’ understanding of intellectual property protection and enhance their capacity to maximize the economic value of their creative works.

The training programme is designed to deepen participants’ knowledge of copyright protection, reproduction rights, royalties management, collective administration, and practical strategies for safeguarding intellectual property within the literary and creative industries. It will also provide participants with valuable insights into the legal and institutional frameworks that support authors’ rights and creative enterprise in Nigeria.

The President of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Dr. Usman Oladipo Akanbi is hosting the workshop, which will take place at Elders Place, No. 17, Abinusawa Street, Off Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Bus Stop, along Idi Ape, Basorun Road, Ibadan, Oyo State, beginning at 12:00 noon. The programme is expected to attract literary stakeholders and members of ANA from across the Southwest and North Central regions.

Participants at the workshop comprise Chairmen and Secretaries drawn from seven ANA State Chapters, namely Oyo, Lagos, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun and Kwara States. Their participation underscores ANA’s commitment to building a more informed and empowered community of writers capable of protecting and managing their intellectual property rights effectively.

Leading discussions at the workshop are Mr. Tosin Akeredolu, Acting Executive Secretary of the Reproduction Rights Society of Nigeria (REPRONIG), and Mr. Moses Adetola, Chief Executive Officer of Big Fields Digitals. The resource persons are expected to provide expert guidance on copyright administration, collective management systems, digital opportunities, and emerging trends in rights protection and royalty collection.

The workshop agenda covers a broad range of topics, including the mandate, functions and services of REPRONIG; understanding reproduction rights in literary works; the importance of collective management for authors; reproduction licensing administration; royalty collection, management and distribution; the benefits of REPRONIG membership; registration of authors and literary works; and practical approaches to protecting literary works through collective rights management. An interactive advisory and membership registration session will also be held.

ANA believes that strengthening authors’ understanding of copyright and collective rights management is essential to fostering a sustainable literary ecosystem in Nigeria. The workshop is expected to equip participants with practical tools and actionable knowledge that will enable them to protect their works, access royalty opportunities, and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the nation’s creative economy.
