By Richard Inya (ANA PRO South)
The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has congratulated Sir Emeka Ukwuaba on the occasion of his 70th birthday.
In a statement jointly signed by the National President, Dr. Usman Oladipo Akanbi, and the General Secretary, Dame Dr. Joan Oji, the Association described the milestone as a moment of pride for both the literary community and the wider public that has benefited from Ukwuaba’s remarkable career and service.
ANA highlighted Sir Ukwuaba’s distinguished work as a freshwater ecologist, noting that his professional life has been shaped by an unwavering dedication to environmental protection and rural development. His decades of service in Enugu State, particularly his leadership as Programme Manager of the Enugu State Agricultural Development Programme (ENADEP), brought meaningful improvements to agricultural productivity and enhanced the wellbeing of rural communities. His subsequent role as Commissioner for Public Utilities, Water Resources and Rural Electrification further amplified his impact, as he guided key infrastructure and water-resource projects that supported sustainable growth.
The statement also celebrated Ukwuaba’s creative achievements, describing him as a committed storyteller and poet who continues to enrich Nigeria’s literary landscape. With four published works—including his forthcoming novel Hypnotising Minefield (2025), the novels The Unending Jackboot Rhythm (2020) and Benign Pain (2021), and his poetry collection Vile Tentacles—Ukwuaba has built a body of work that engages with themes of resilience, society, and the complexities of human experience. His writing reflects both depth and imagination, marking him as a notable voice in contemporary Nigerian literature.
ANA, on behalf of its leadership and members nationwide, wished Sir Emeka Ukwuaba continued health, strength, and creative energy. The Association expressed admiration for his accomplishments across ecology, public service, and literature, and conveyed its hope that the years ahead will bring him further fulfilment as he continues to inspire through knowledge, leadership, and storytelling.
